Working in ict myself, beta-testing UX of some iOS apps and coming from domestic domotica (Hue, Nest), I'm new to dash-cams.
With this background I find the '4K' image-quality in lowlight situations underwhelming to put it mildly. Since apart all this industry its marketing bla around 'advanced' imaging sensors and used optics for nighttime recording, it's in my experience for this nighttime use-case practically still on par with our 10 year old 1080p Nest cams (also able to switch to IR-mode for more valuable recording).
Besides, the casing of this device is getting worrying warm, makes me wonder how hot its internal components are actually getting and how this affects durability remains to be seen. Our Nest cams are not even becoming halve as hot.
The provided iOS app, as remote interface and for streaming video to it, feels very 'Alibaba-type' tech (i.e. basic features with sometimes even Asian ill- or untranslated characters).
Also not being able to simply use the saved proprietary 'gps.dat' with GNSS track-data outside Vantrue its eco-system as exported universal gpx, is very much to be desired.
This also since Vantrue its own 'Advanced Player' desktop application for OSX is imho not at all advanced yet very limited with mediocre playback features and troublesome performance, even on Mx type Macs.
On a positive note, I like do the true 4K image-quality in (favourable) daylight situations, simple compact design, relative easy 3-button operation and startup time to worry-free almost instant automatic (resume to) recording. #like
All in all so far - after only 1000km of usage - relatively content with this cam for our car its dash.
