I actually have (2) of these cameras. One was a new Item from Ebay sealed int he box. I had it sitting around for a month or so and finally installed it once I got the power cable ordered from Vantrue and installed May 2025. In Oct 2025 I wanted to retrieve some video, but the cam stopped connecting through the app so I pulled the cam and downloaded the video from the SD card. The cam was in decent shape no melting or anything. On January 2026 I was rear ended and couldn't get the app to connect still and took it out of the car and I noticed the case was pretty hot. Now it was Oct 2025-Jan 2026, which were cold months and the car is garage kept. When I saw it in the light the cam was just melted and deformed. I couldn't even get the sd card out or press the buttons because the case was so warped. Anyways I contact Vantrue to see what I could do to get the footage, but they just said it was not covered by warranty and did not offer any assistance in getting the video during any communications. They just said it's not covered by warranty and their service team did tell me this quoted text:
"This product was manufactured in 2022, and we now use high-temperature resistant PC flame-retardant material. Our tests show that the casing material alone does not deform at 120℃ for 8 hours, and the assembled product does not deform at 90℃ for 8 hours."
So if you have an older model or even purchase older stock from 2022 to I don't know when they not survive heat or the battery is a possible hazard. Their support team pretty much disregarded the info I provided stating the cam was hot to the touch and blamed their use of non heat resistant materials. There is probably an issue with their superconductor or the actual board either way they blamed it on high heat and it has been pretty cold for the timeframe this would have happened. Anyways I just wanted to warn anyone buying this of these possible issues and if you look on Amazon there are some instances of these things melting as well.
